Zayk Cronyn getting last-minute encouragement from Dad before the Church Creek TT before US Nationals

July 4, 2014, Madison, WI: 10 year old Zayk Cronyn, in only his first season of road racing, bested a field of talented 9 and 10 year old cyclists from across the USA to capture his first ever US National Championship title in the 9km Time Trial event with a spectacular time of 15:19.79. Zayk has been a tremendous asset to the Rock Creek Velo team this season and often races competitively of mixed fields of 9-14 year olds. He recently earned 4th place in a tune-up time trial event in Church Creek, Maryland against 9-14 year old juniors, so he knew he was on good form coming into these National Championships.

In 2012, Claire van Ekdom, who got her start with Rock Creek Velo and has since returned to the team for the 2013-2014 season, captured two US National Championship titles in the Road Race and TT events competing as a 16 year old.

Zayk will be moving back to Tucson, Arizona where he’ll be a 5th grader at the Khalsa Montessori School and racing for El Grupo Youth Cycling Club–their gain and our big loss! We wish Zayk continued success in his cycling career!
